PRESS RELEASE: FUSIONpresents Emergency
Preparedness Song, Expect It. Have You Prepared?
Wednesday, October 27, 2010
The City of Port Coquitlam Emergency Program
Officer, Cheryl Lalonde, has partnered with FUSIONpresents in
the development of a song about Emergency Preparedness for
Canadians in times of natural disaster. The song, entitled
Expect It. Have You Prepared? revolves around the importance of
being prepared and knowing the basics of what to do when
disaster strikes. The song will use earthquakes as the main
example of a potential disaster, as earthquakes have the highest
likelihood of occurrence in Canada.
The song, now in its final recording and
production stages, has been extremely well received and endorsed
by the City of Port Coquitlam and will be featured during May
Day Parades and other civic events. The song will also be
showcased on the City of Port Coquitlam civic website and used
during various educational Emergency Preparedness programs.
FUSIONpresents has also developed an Emergency
Preparedness school package, including the lyrics, music, and an
idea sheet on how to put on an Emergency Preparedness musical
theatrical performance in school talent shows with the goal to
raise awareness in the schools and local community. All schools
in Port Coquitlam will be receiving this educational package in
In the effort to target all age groups from
parents to teenagers to seniors to children, FUSIONpresents
selected Port Coquitlam's own Kilmer Elementary School Choir,
under the guidance of Kilmer music teacher, Mme. Lajeunesse, to
participate in the project and sing a chorus on the final
recording of the song. FUSIONpresents artists Sami Ghawi,
Nathalie Bernard and Daniel Yamamoto co-wrote the lyrics and
performed the vocals on the song.
Expect It. Have You Prepared? will be available
for streaming online on January 01, 2011 on the FUSIONpresents
site and the City of Port Coquitlam's civic website. The song
will be available for download and purchase shortly thereafter.
Studies have shown that the general public is
very apathetic towards natural disaster and how it could affect
them. As such, the purpose of this song project is to bring
awareness and know-how to people and help them protect
themselves against these very plausible threats.
