Biography
Celebrating 15 years as a DJ, BiG AL has been
fine tuning his style since 1990. Well known for his epic 8++ hour extended
journeys, AL has earned a solid reputation for himself in Montreal. Recently
moving from his 5 year DJ Residency at Club Stereo where he also served as the
Talent Buyer, the Artist Relations Director & the musical consultant for 2
years. He is a true Artist, often dropping his unique remixes and edits and
shaking dance floors across the world. He consistently contributes to the global
underground movement of House Music and absorbs inspiration from everything
around him while retaining his past as a focal point. His broad variety of
influences has shaped his assorted and wide ranging sound which unifies many
cultures. AL is a fan of true house music since the mid 80’s, he has rolled &
evolved with the beat of changing trends & styles but always kept it real,
simple and all about the music. He combines different elements and styles of
electronic music (Deep, Tech, Funky, Tribal, Vocal, Old School, Chill Out,
Afro/Brazilian & Disco) deliciously blending them into danceable and provocative
sets charged with rhythm, soul & Drums!!!

Having lived all around the
world, AL was able to identify with many cultures and traditions. Understanding
the diversity of people, AL studied the music and refined his art in the Studio.
In 1999, he won a JPF Award for the best song on a mixed compilation. In 2003,
he was nominated by the Hour Magazine as one of Montreal’s “TOP 4” Beat Masters.
Throughout his career, AL was invited to play in many music capitals across the
world at legendary nights & clubs. From Tunnel (NYC), Centro Fly (NYC), Buzz
(DC), Sullivan Room (NYC), Table 50 (NYC), Velvet Underground (London UK), Boa
(Toronto), Penelope (Ibiza, Spain), Avalon (Los Angeles), to Pacha (Egypt). AL
also held many weekly and monthly residencies at different clubs in Montreal
such as Stereo, Jai Bar (RIP), Jingxi (RIP), Living night club, Groove Society,
AIR 737, illume, EXIT, The London Club, Duplex, the SAT and as of September
2005, Circus Afterhours. From his current A&R position at Ready Mix Records to
his past Artist Relations position at Stereo, AL is always sure to carry a bag
of fresh beats!!!

BiG AL has shared the decks with Baby ‘Hec’
Romero, Satoshi Tomiie, Lord G, Danny ‘Buddah’ Morales,
Joeski, Onionz, Mr. C, Tim Skinner, Anthony Pappa, John
Creamer, Jonathan Lisle, Monica Kruse, Low End
Specialists, Chris Fortier, Jimmy Van M., Omid 16B, Dave
Ralph, Who da funk, MV., Angel Moraes, David Morales,
Fred Everything, Lee Burridge, Patrick Turner, Asad
Rizvi and many others. His Bi-Monthly Residency with Def
Mix and SAW Recording artist Satoshi Tomiie @ Stereo has
been ongoing for 1 Year and developed a strong local
following.

BiG AL has programmed, edited and engineered
tracks for Angels Moraes. His debut vinyl release ‘The
Fine Nelly E.P’ received critical acclaim by Mixer, BPM
and Klublife magazine, rose to the balance promote
charts for 3 consecutive weeks, was featured on John
Digweed’s KISS100 FM radio show and was rated the most
overlooked record of 2001 by www.progressive-sounds.com
. His programming and engineering for Angel Moraes has
also led the remix of Laid’s “No More Games” by Angel
Moraes to be played on Deep Dish’s exclusive Global
Underground Mix for Ministry of Sound Radio. His studio
skills and editing genius have led him to work for some
of the best DJ’s & producers around the world including
(David Morales, Angel Moraes, Victor Calderone, Tone
Depth, Quicksound etc...)

BiG AL was also one of the Talent Buyer’s @
Stereo in 2002, assisting general management as a
consultant on a daily basis. In 2003, he became the
Artist Relations for the Club and in January 2004, he
picked up the talent buyer’s position for StereoBar,
ensuring musical integrity and proper reception to all
guest talents performing at Stereo.

BiG AL is also an
entrepreneur as much as he is an artist, he co-owns and
runs the Ready Mix Entertainment Group, which parents a
record label (1998), publishing company, production
company, and booking agency. As Ready Mix A&R & Label
Manager he has signed artists such as (Tone Depth,
Madoka, Steven Caicedo, Quicksound, Thomas Penton, James
Benitez, G-PAL, DJ Vibe and Filterheadz). He has
extended his network through promotion and public
relations for Proton Radio, Club Stereo and Klublife
Magazine, for which he contributes reviews and charts
monthly. Big Al has developed a strong and respectable
reputation in the global house scene and was responsible
for putting together The Proton Sessions Concept Nights
@ Stereo which is an ongoing monthly for the past 2
years. AL is also responsible for The Tube Nights in
Montreal which included guests such as (Patrick Turner,
Asad Rizvi and Mazi). |
